When they are under the age of 10 i just explain that they had to go away for a long time but you can always talk to them and then when they get older and ask questions i explain

I think if you have told your child about god then just say that god needed that person to come up to heaven but whenever they miss them they can look up and talk to them whenever , if it’s someone close get some pictures printed out of your child and the person and put it next to their bed so they can say goodnight and kiss the picture etc.. my oldest is only 4 and he was too young when my grandma passed away but when the cat passed away we told him he was up with god and got him a little stuffed cat in memory of him

I'm not a professional but I dont think small children under like age 8 really understand the whole concept of death. My son has adhd and aspergers. We've had a few friends and family pass away through the years and we didnt start taking him to funerals till it was close family and he was 12. Each child is different but I think just the truth of what happens is the best approach
