Is school for me?
Posted on: 08 Mar 2018

So I’ve been struggling with college and I am paying $20,000 a year worth of tuition and I have honestly just felt that school hasn’t been my thing since senior year of high school like I’ve always done really good in school but college has just shown me I’m not good at school like the people here. What do you guys suggest I do? I don’t want to let my family down

If your gut is telling you that school isn’t for you, then school probably isn’t for you. You can’t worry about what your family or other people think this is YOUR life. You have to do what makes you happy.

It’s easy to get frustrated in college. It’s a new place. It’s easy to feel everybody knows everyone but you. It’s really lonely at times. The expectations are a lot higher at college than high school. There is no one there to make you study or make you care.

That said, there’s a reason you went. There is a dream or goal YOU have for your life. Don’t give up on that. Reignite the fire that got you in, in the first place.

The first few semesters are always tough. My brother almost dropped out his first year. (New place no friends, academic expectations). ( He’s been a veterinarian for 30 years now.)(He made friends at college who challenge him and have been his friends until this day.)

The money is always scary. If your future career is one where you’ll come out and easily find a job and make money don’t be as concerned. If you can claim yourself on your taxes after a year you may be eligible for some financial aid.

If you can move back home you can take the basics at the community college and transfer at the two year mark. My daughter received a transfer scholarship to a private school for her last two years. (Businesses look that you got a degree and where from...not where you spent the first two years.

Please don’t give up on yourself or your dreams.

U have to do what is best for u, if ur family loves u they will understand, but maybe u only need a break to maybe reboot. Sometimes going start from high school to college can overwhelm you so a break could be just what u need. Take a semester off and see if that helps how u feel and I'm sure ur family can understand that.
Best of luck dear
